My colleague and I were in town for work and were craving some Italian comfort food. We decided to come here for dinner based off of fellow coworkers' suggestions.
The immediate draw of this place is it is situated right across from the Capitol steps. It is just a beautiful view & great for taking pictures (if you're from out of town and into that kinda thing). Since Harrisburg is a ghost town in the evening, we parked right out front for free with no issues.
It is very small and inviting inside, and the chef is preparing your meal just steps away from you. We felt bad for the restaurant though, because it does not seem like the locals like to venture into the city for their evening meal. That is unfortunate because they are missing out on some AWESOME food and fun experiences!
I ordered the bruschetta as an appetizer and the pasta primavera with garlic/oil sauce as my entree. I was very impressed with the freshness, quality, and taste of everything, and the portions and price were just right, and really could stand to be a little higher in my opinion!
Our waiter was very friendly and on top of everything. He made our visit a memorable one.
I would recommend this to locals and out-of-towners alike. Upon our exit, I noticed on the door that they offer a lunch buffet during the week, which would probably be a great option!
Sammy's Authentic Italian Restaurant is a wonderful place with great food and service in a quaint setting with a great view of our Capitol. Check this place out! -

A great local restaurant with lots of authentic dishes. My meat-eating friends enjoyed the chicken parmigiana and the steak and, for me - the vegetarian - the eggplant parmigiana was good, too. My complaint is that we finished our meal and were still hungry. Small salad, no offer for more bread, eggplant parm could use a larger portion of the eggplant and a bit less of the pasta. It was a nice meal and I will go again... good service, pleasant environment.
And you can BYOB - always a better deal. -

Treatment by staff and owner was horrific!!! My wife and I have hearing loss. The woman at the table next to us was literally yelling as she spoke to her husband and son for our entire meal so my wife and I could not hear each other speak. I said, "Excuse me could you lower your voices please, we can't hear each other." Instead of acknowledging my request respectfully, the husband called me rude. The manager came over and told me off. Then the owner came over to the loud people's table, apologized to them and said to us "they are my customers." I responded with "so are we!"
We have traveled extensively, lived in many states, visited many restaurants, and have never been treated this way for a simple polite request.
I'm a respectful reserved person and am just shocked and disgusted.
Please don't patronize this restaurant. Instead go somewhere that your business is appreciated and the staff have some class. -

Great meal. Marinara was excellent. Service was great. My wife had the gluten free pasta and eggplant. It was great - eggplant done just right Italy style in egg wash.BYOB helps. Will back!

My wife, son, and I went to Sammy's for dinner last weekend. I have been coming to Sammy's for almost 20 years and it is our family's favorite restaurant. The food and service are excellent. It reminds me of a small Italian restaurant that you would find in NYC - tables close together....maybe a little loud...a place to enjoy a BYOB glass of wine, great food, and good conversation.
Last weekends visit is the one bad experience we've had here and it had nothing to do with Sammy and his staff. In this unfortunate situation Sammy and his team quickly handled a disgruntled couple at the table next to us and asked them to not return to the restaurant. After loudly and rudely complaining about every minor detail of their dining experience the gentleman at the next table (without irony) asked our table to keep our voices down. We are grateful for Sammy and his staff for how they quickly responded to the couple becoming more and more agitated. Every table in the restaurant (loudly) celebrated when this couple finally left.
Please don't let a single smear review influence whether you would give Sammy's a try. Believe the many positive reviews. It's a great restaurant and you'll enjoy it.
